Catania Fontanarossa “Vincenzo Bellini” International airport is the nearest and most convenient airport at some 55 km from Taormina. It features several flights from the major Italian cities such as Milan, Rome, Naples and Venice (Alitalia, Windjet, Meridiana, etc.) and many international direct flights from important European cities such as London (British Airways), Paris (EasyJet), Berlin, Stuttgart, Zurich (Air Berlin), Munich (Lufthansa), Dubai (Neos), Malta (Air Malta) and many more. Lots of charter flights from all over the world land to Catania too. From Catania airport you can reach Taormina in one hour drive by very convenient direct highway A18 (direction Messina, exit TAORMINA). Taxis cost approximately € 80/90,00 one way and it takes about one hour. Direct buses from the airport to Taormina town centre are available every day. Check the timetable on www.interbus.it.it. It takes about one hour and a half.

Excursion
We expect the excursion to be ~85 euros per person.
ETNA MORNING + TAORMINA TOUR
· Pick up by bus at around 8.00 AM
1 hour drive to Mount Etna, with a brief stop at a cottage where we will pick up hiking equipment.
· Trekking on North – East side of Mount Etna (1800 – 2000 mt)*
Naturalistic guides will lead us through ancient woods and extinct craters, introducing us to the spectacular phenomena that have occurred over time. The trekking part will last 1 hour and a half – 2 hours. The tour company indicated that we won’t ascend to the top of the volcano, but hike the north side. From what they describe, anyone in general good health should be OK. They even said it was OK for kids!
· Lunch based on typical products
Lunch (appetizer and pasta) accompanied by local wine, a dessert and a taste of sweet almond wine.
· Drive back to Taormina and City Walking Tour
We will be led among Taormina’s streets by 2 expert guides, who will show us the most important spots of this ancient city: we will explore its main street and alleys, visit the charming Greek Theatre and learn about its history and legends.
· Walk back to hotel at about 6.00/6.30 PM
WHAT TO BRING: Recommend you wear comfortable and season-appropriate clothes. The company can provide windproof jackets and hiking boots, although, if possible, the company suggests you wear your own hiking boots or trainers as you already know they fit well. In case you don’t have any you can borrow their shoes and jackets, but this will require advanced notice. They suggest you bring with you a bag/backpack with a bottle of water, a hat, sunscreen.
They don’t recommend participation to those who are not in a good state of health, especially to those suffering from cardio-respiratory conditions.
